Specification for improved performance

The specification below provides the recommended improvements needed to improve product durability. They are ranked from bronze to gold based on the effectiveness of the change in improving durability, with bronze being the minimum and gold being the maximum.

Durable materials / stand / wall mount

  • Strength and rigidity through using strong stand materials/inserts (such as steel, toughened glass and PC-ABS) and connections to steel chassis
  • Wall mount to be made of steel
  • Stand and wall mounts to directly attach to TV with steel screws / bolts into steel chassis
  • Only standard screw heads to be used to allow customer assembly without the need for special tools
  • Quality control procedures in place and documented to check for the above requirements.

Use of screws and bolts to secure stand and wall mount to chassis. 

The use of steel screws and bolts should add a few pence as these parts are widely available ‘off the shelf’. If modifications to the chassis are required this would add additional cost.

Specifying a stronger material for stand and wall mount

The use of a stronger stand materials (such as steel reinforcing in the stand) should add only tens of pence to the unit cost assuming no tooling or chassis changes are required.  

Stand test

Physical testing of a small sample of production TVs (rather than QC of a percentage of each batch) is low cost when spread across a whole order.
